I visited Cuba in 2002 and was inspired by the color, the music, the vibrant street life to create this body of work.

Pictures of my family with fragments of letters, and other memorabilia as they emigrated from Eastern Europe to America.

Flowers have always been my passion. I photograph them everywhere I go but especially the ones in my garden.

Early morning is a mystical time on the water especially during a fog

This series of images is based upon my artistic responses to Jewish themes and texts.

I have always been attracted to old texts and now enjoy collaging them with the addition of color.

In 2001 I visited Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. There is no way to describe the variety of sights, smells and sounds. These images are only a beginning.

This group of synagogues includes several on the Lower East Side of New York plus others.

These are images of various places to which I have travelled and taken photographs.

Artist's Biography
Barbara Freedman had been a photographer for many years working in both black and white and color when she discovered the ability to go beyond the traditional darkroom into the digital darkroom. There she could combine images and collage them digitally in the computer. She began to work in layers using her photographs to build richly textured surfaces.

She found ways to combine photographs with text and other material which led to a totally new way of seeing things. She created images which lent themselves to impressionistic renditions of the buildings museums. churches and synagogues she saw. Thru the use of layered techniques she is able to combine interior and exterior views of buildings and other scenes.

Freedmans’s use of bold color and skillful stratification allows viewers to explore the many different layers of the cultures and heritages she is exploring.
